There doesn’t seem to be a diary for 1941. Maybe she wrote a diary and lost it, or left it behind in England. I believe it was in 1941 that she fell in love with Robert Burns Cameron. I’m sure he looked dashing in his officer’s uniform. I know she dated him when she was seventeen.  R. B. Cameron was with the Royal Canadian Engineers. He came from Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Did not go out today.
Mon Dec 23
Went to Horsham. Bought presents. Had tea in Cotswold. List (or Lots) Xmas card.
Tues Dec 24
Christmas Eve. Filled Pam’s and Wendy’s stockings. Went to Alfold and Cranleigh. Saw soldiers. Also spoke to two Royal Artillery, arranged date. Also spoke to sentry.
Wed Dec 25 Christmas Day
Had plenty of drink, chicken, pud etc., had party. June came. Played piano with Daddy. Impersonated.
Thurs Dec 26 Bank Holiday
Boxing Day. Had more fun. Eric came. Went in car to Cranleigh. Went to Mrs. Burk Myers. Borrowed shoes!
Fri Dec 27
Saw Eric. Went to Three Horseshoes. Also to Railway and Onslow. Had sherry, port, ginger wine. Came home in car. Eric came. Laddered stocking 5/-. Saw Joy??? Daddy went back today. Had present off Dennis 6/6. Saw Tony. Hitler did not bomb us Xmas.

Saw Ganga.??? Eric came in car. Stayed late. Saw Ben and Bucket. Cleaned windows.

Have a cold. Allen Green is ill. Did ironing.

Poor little Lucky died this afternoon. I think Ken was cruel to him. Could have gone to pictures with Dennis, Feathers, —–.
Let’s hope the War will end soon!!

Did not go out today. I dreamt, the other night, I visited Hitler and he promised peace.

Had letter from Renee. Went to Cranleigh to take chicken. Had 6d off lady, 6d for going there and 6d for cutting hair off Mrs. Covey.
Tues Dec 10
Saw Ken, Pam caught her rabbit. Saw Fred, Mrs. Layer’s son!
Wed Dec 11
Am looking forward to Xmas. Have bought a few presents. Did not go out today. Saw Fred.

Saw few people! Sent card to Ray.

Went to village. Saw Ben etc. Arranged date. Will not turn up.

Had drinks Mummy bought. Went to flicks. Saw Diana Churchill in “House of the Arrowâ€. Also â€Roman Scandalsâ€, Eddie Cantor. Ben did not turn up. Did not go to dance after all.

Went to dance at Cranleigh College. Danced with officer who was with Lady Burns. Saw Ken. Met crowds of soldiers. Eric kept giving us port etc. Went in Railway and Onslow. Met Eric Hibbs. Arranged date. Sat at pictures with Tony also Monday with Jack. Nearly came home in army lorry. Kissed me goodnight. Came home in Armstrong car.

Saw dog fight overhead. Machine guns. Went to Gibb’s Hatch. Had lots sweets. Pressed Beef and almond?? Fruit, coffee. Went up to Mrs. Covey’s. Daddy banged head.

Did not go anywhere today as it teemed with rain.

Mummy had day off. We went to Horsham. Had shoes, hat, gloves. Had tea at Cotswold. Missed bus. Had to go Cranleigh way. Had lovely time.

Saw spy signalling Man on bridge.  Saw Ben etc. Wanted me to go out with them.

Bomb dropped a few fields away.

Went to London in van with Hugh and Mr. Wise. 4 raids, fighting overhead. Saw damage all over place, got furniture.

Went to meet Mummy. Passed her on way. Went all way to Cranleigh. Letter from Renee yesterday.

My birthday. Today I’m 16. Had 5/- off Mummy. Handkerchief off Pamela. Two cards

Saw Spikey. Went to village. Went to Cranley. Saw Tons of soldiers. Met Mummy with Bonzo. Went down Guildford road.

Went to village in morning to get money. Last night saw flares. Bombs drop very near.

Tidied up a lot. Listened to a rather boring lot of records of The Reverend in America.

Cannot remember much as I forgot to write as I do not have much time. Go on Mrs. Covey’s bike to Cranley etc. a lot. Go shooting! The planes go over every night.

Did not do much today. Went shooting.

Went to pictures. Saw Basil Rathbone, Boris Karloff in Tower of London, also Vic McLaughlin in Rio. Nearly got bombed home.

Uncle Hugh came today. Going to stay week.

Uncle Hugh is always catching rabbits, pigeons etc.

Had several raids today. Had dinner at shop. Went in library shelter. Auntie Pat stayed at our house.
Mon Sept 2
Had raid at 8 o’clock till 9 this morning. Went and played tennis with Phyllis, Pat, Billie. Air raid in middle of game. Went down shelter.
Tues Sept 3
Went to work. Not bad. Had warning in morning and afternoon. Saw Dennis Young.
Wed Sept 4
Mummy’s Birthday today. Am going to buy her a present Saturday. Went to work. Had warning several times today and at night.
Thurs Sept 5
Went to work. Had raid this morning, one afternoon. I have to answer phone. Had raid lasting 9 hours and one lasting 1 hour.
Fri Sept 6
Had money, (salary) 14-5. Warning in morning, one in afternoon. Saw German plane making smoke in sky.
Sat Sept 7
Germans hit docks, fire blazing. About 6 raids.
Sun Sept 8
Had dinner and tea at shop. Tons of raids. Shelter locked.
Mon Sept 9
Went to Labour Exchange. Saw tons of ruins! Two incendiary bombs in road. Cannot remember much about this week except it was full of raids.
Tues Sept 10
Mr. and Mrs. Smail sleep down with us, also Miss Hodges, Mr. Burk.
Wed Sept 11
Tons of raids. Might go away to Alfold!! Dull day. Shops shut.
Thurs Sept 12
Had dinner at shop, turned out of house. Auntie Pat and Pamela left London. Four houses away from us 3 houses were bombed down, people injured, also Walden?? Road etc. Uncle Hugh came back in shelter. Time bomb in garden. Went to business. Four hours in shelter. Several raids, whistling bombs!

On Friday night and Saturday, Lavender Hill was bombed, also Clapham Junction, Post Office, etc. All shops ruined. Left London. Got lift on lorry. Saw cars crash. Went on Tube, air-raid. Met naval officers. Air-raid. On train! Went in taxi 12/-. Auntie Pat at Mrs. Covey’s.
