Cynthia’s Diary – April 16 – 17, 1942

Thursday 16th April

Date with Nic.  Had to get shopping for Mr. Lindner.  Met officer, Bill etc.  Nic did not come.  Truck did not come.  Went to concert at Village Hall. Very good.  John came and sat by me.  Saw Wally and lots more boys I know.  John kept talking.  He seems to be around here every day.

Friday 17th April

Went to movies saw “The Common Touch” with Greta Gint also “Private Nurse”.  Went by myself, I think, or maybe I went with John.  Went to Cranleigh Hotel.  John came home.  Could not get rid of him.  I’m just about fed up with him.

Cynthia’s Diary – April 14 – 15, 1942

Tuesday 14th April

Got up early.  Went to London.  Went to Corner House.  Went to High Court of Justice.  Court adjourned from 11 o’clock till tomorrow.  Had lunch at A.B.C.  Went around city could not get in any movies or shows.  Saw one or two people.  Went to Cranleigh Hotel in evening.  Got a little merry.  John and Gordon came.  That little squirt will follow me around.

Wednesday 15th April

Went to London again.  Court was on all day.  Had lunch at A.B.C.  Went to two corner houses.  Listened to orchestra.  Got off with Australian R.A.F. officers.  Went to “Daily Mirror Dorland Hall” exhibition.  Very good.  Bob came yesterday.  Dot had drink with him.  Was I wild.  Went in Milk Bar.

Sunday 12th April

Tony came in the morning.  Brought cigs for Billie, Choc. for Pam.  Took lots of photos, went for walk.  Went to Cranleigh Hotel.  Charles came.  Went for moonlight walk!  Tony showed some card tricks.  Saw John’s father in Cranleigh Hotel.  Charles thinks an awful lot of himself.  I think he’s rather a flirt.

Monday 13th April

Got a date with Kid.  Went to movies with Kid.  Saw Henry Fonda and Joan Bennett in Wild Geese Calling.  Also some other film.  Saw lots of soldiers I know!  Kid’s not bad.  John came.  Dot and Billie made me say goodnight to him!  He’s definitely not my type.  Chatter-box.

Cynthia’s Diary – April 10 – 11, 1942

Friday 10th April

Went to movies with George.  Saw “Moon over Miami”.  He came home with me.  Tried to teach me the Conga, taught me new step.  He’s not bad.  Kissed me!  Supposed to see him at dance.  He is 20 years old.  Very good singer.  Wants to be my regular boy friend.  But of course it’s out of the question.

Saturday 11th April

Danced a lot with Charles!  Went to dance with John.  Talked in afternoon to John and Bill in High Street.  They came to tea!!  About 1:30 Bob came in car.  Stayed couple of hours, he’s getting leave soon.  Fred(Bill) got jealous, also George did.  Had talk.  Told him I liked Bob.  Kissed me.  Tony kept fooling kissing.  Also Nic.  Supposed to see Nic Thursday.  Tony and Bill came home.  Had wonderful time at dance.  John rather annoyed.

Wednesday 8th April

Supposed to go to Guildford with Charles.  He did not come.  Met Bill and John.  Saw Johnny Ford, Norm.  Went had drinks in Cranley Hotel.  Saw George.  He gave me RCAMC badge.  Saw Robbie.  John gave me photo of him and Bill.  Dot and Billie came.  Bill came had supper.  Did not go until late.  He’s staying at Troop Inn with Bill on leave.  Rather boring.  Keeps talking.

Thursday 9th April

Boys came round.  Went to Cranleigh Hotel.  Had rather good time.  They all like to come round.

 

Cynthia’s Diary – April 6 – 7, 1942

Monday 6th April

Went to dance.  Fred MacMurray danced a lot.  George and him sang to me.  Danced a lot with Eddie Jeans boy.  Saw Frank.  Spoke.  George is 20.  Eddie asked me if I knew the “why” dance.  He taught me!!  Danced with Jim.  Had last waltz with Norman.  George gave me photo.  Came home with me.  Dot came home with his friend.  Had supper.  Did not leave til late.  George is not bad.  Not exactly my type.

Tuesday 7th April

Saw Jean, waved.  Went to movies with George.  Dot and Gordy came.  Saw Nic, Blackie, Frank and Roy etc.  Also Charles kept zooming around in truck.  Saw Sonja Henie in _______

Went in 2/6d seats, had ice, did not invite George home.  Charles came just as I was going to bed.  Went to truck with him.  Saw Frank. May go to Guildford tomorrow.

 

 

Cynthia’s Diary – April 4 – 5, 1942

Saturday 4th April

Went to dance.  Went and had drinks with Charles!  Lots of Canadians in “Horseshoes”.  Kept flirting with me.  Jim came and had drink.  Danced a lot with Charles.  Milton was very pleased and happy.  Danced with me.  Went a ride in Truck.  Then went in truck to Ewhurst.  Charles came in the house.  Did not go until rather late.  Had very enjoyable evening.

Sunday 5th April

Went to movies saw Tom Wallis and Lillie Palmer in “Crack Jack”, also Charlie McCarthy in “You can’t cheat an Honest Man”.  Went to Cranleigh Hotel.  Saw officers.  Captain Tommy Warner.  Met Sergeant Frazer, also Bob sergeant major.  They came and played cards.  Gordon came, also Charles.  Bob was a great joke to Charles.  Saw them off to truck.  Charles kissed me!!  Dot saw Gordon off.  Saw John.

Thursday 2nd April

Phoned Bob.   He said he would be coming at 8 o’clock.  Supposed to go to pictures with John.  Told him (John) I could not go.  He was very disappointed.  Bob did not come after all.  Curse him.  You wait until I see him.  Wish I’d gone to movies.  Went and bought fish and chips.

Friday 3rd April

Did not go anywhere much.  Went to pictures.  Saw “Road to Frisco”, “A Lady Must Love”.  Went in 1/10d seats.  Saw several people I know.  Saw John

Tuesday 31st March

Supposed to be a dance.  Got ready and Joy came to say there wasn’t one.  I think she thought she might see Bob.  Anyhow she stayed evening.  Showed her photos etc.  I have almost finished one of my films.

 

Wednesday 1st April

Went to pictures saw “Unfinished Business” and Richard Arlen in some Arctic film.  Supposed to go with Robbie but was too late.  John sat by me.  Bought ice, gave me gum.  Walked home with me.  Said he earns #200 a week!!  Etc.  Supposed to go to flicks tomorrow.  Lovely moonlight night.  Film very good!!  No dance until Monday next.

 

Cynthia’s Diary – March 29 – 30, 1942

Sunday 29th March

Saw Roy, but went to movies by myself.  Saw one of the boys.  Saw Frank.  When I came out of movies went to “Three Horseshoes” with him.  Stood talking.  Mummy and Gordon invited us to Cranleigh Hotel.  Felt sick and had cold in head.  Was sick went home everyone fussed over me.  Went to bed.  Frank’s crazy about me, but he’s not my type.  I hope to go to the dance tomorrow.

 

Monday 30th March

Went to Canadian invitation dance.  R.C.E. band.  They just had fairy lights and spotlights.  Jean was there with Eddie.  Met Doug.  Saw officers.  Doug bought me refreshments.  Frank gave me a film.  Robbie asked me to have drink.  Kissed me.  Had lovely time.  Fred MacMurray took me home.  His real name’s Bill.  Dot came to the dance.  There may be one tomorrow.  Bill wants to go out with me!!  He’ crazy about me.
