Cynthia’s Diary – June 5 – 11, 1944
Mon June 5th
Had letter from my darling John. Also one from Daddy with L5-0-0 on Saturday. When John came. I had 2 parcels from Johnâ€™s mother and sister. Bridal set, (nightdress, slip and panties). Also 2 pairs stockings and pair of babies booties. I had to pay 18/1 for them. Gosh was I mad.
Also had letter from John which one of the fellows brought down.Â Sent of some invitation cars. I should have come on duty at the Station Sat. but forgot all about it. Went on duty today. Phoned StrandPalace Hotel. They are full up. Girls moaned (because I) forgot going on duty.
Tues June 6th
Had letter from Uncle Arthur. Our troops have started to invade near France.
Wed June 7th
Mr. Pryke gave me a cheque for L2-2-0 for wedding present. Carm and Chuck came to supper. Donâ€™t think Iâ€™ll tell John. He hates Carmel. Pamela at Elaineâ€™s went to dance. Stayed in and did sewing.
Thurs June 8th
Elaine came in evening. Gee Iâ€™m getting excited. Hope John can get leave. The weddingâ€™s just got to come off now. Iâ€™ve been dashing everywhere arranging things. Lovely invitation cards.
Fri June 9th
Went to the show. Saw Fred McMurrey and Paulette Goddard in â€œStanding Room Onlyâ€. Looked in dance, while I took dog walk. Eileen, Pam, and Elaine. Had a talk with Stan. Wrote to John. I write him nearly every day.
Sat June 10th
Mummy and I went to Guildford. Got rest of veiling and headdresses for bridesmaids etc. Had tea Abbotts Kitchen. Had cheque from Johnâ€™s mother 200 dollars. 44-17-10.
Sun June 11th
Went to show. Wrote to John. Gee Iâ€™m getting excited. To think Iâ€™ll really be Johnâ€™s wife, and heâ€™ll be my own darling husband. Heâ€™s the best man in the whole world and the handsomest too, and I wouldnâ€™t part with him, not for a million pounds I love him with all my heart and soul. Oh! Dearest come to me soon.
Cynthia’s Diary – April 16 – 17, 1942
Thursday 16th April
Date with Nic.Â Had to get shopping for Mr. Lindner.Â Met officer, Bill etc.Â Nic did not come.Â Truck did not come.Â Went to concert at Village Hall. Very good.Â John came and sat by me.Â Saw Wally and lots more boys I know.Â John kept talking.Â He seems to be around here every day.
Friday 17th April
Went to movies saw â€œThe Common Touchâ€ with Greta Gint also â€œPrivate Nurseâ€.Â Went by myself, I think, or maybe I went with John.Â Went to Cranleigh Hotel.Â John came home.Â Could not get rid of him.Â Iâ€™m just about fed up with him.

Tuesday 14th April
Got up early.Â Went to London.Â Went to Corner House.Â Went to High Court of Justice.Â Court adjourned from 11 o’clock till tomorrow.Â Had lunch at A.B.C.Â Went around city could not get in any movies or shows.Â Saw one or two people.Â Went to Cranleigh Hotel in evening.Â Got a little merry.Â John and Gordon came.Â That little squirt will follow me around.
Wednesday 15th April
Went to London again.Â Court was on all day.Â Had lunch at A.B.C.Â Went to two corner houses.Â Listened to orchestra.Â Got off with Australian R.A.F. officers.Â Went to â€œDaily Mirror Dorland Hallâ€ exhibition.Â Very good.Â Bob came yesterday.Â Dot had drink with him.Â Was I wild.Â Went in Milk Bar.
Cynthia’s Diary – April 12 – 13, 1942
Sunday 12th April
Tony came in the morning.Â Brought cigs for Billie, Choc. for Pam.Â Took lots of photos, went for walk.Â Went to Cranleigh Hotel.Â Charles came.Â Went for moonlight walk!Â Tony showed some card tricks.Â Saw Johnâ€™s father in Cranleigh Hotel.Â Charles thinks an awful lot of himself.Â I think heâ€™s rather a flirt.
Monday 13th April
Got a date with Kid.Â Went to movies with Kid.Â Saw Henry Fonda and Joan Bennett in Wild Geese Calling.Â Also some other film.Â Saw lots of soldiers I know!Â Kidâ€™s not bad.Â John came.Â Dot and Billie made me say goodnight to him!Â Heâ€™s definitely not my type.Â Chatter-box.
Cynthia’s Diary – April 10 – 11, 1942
Friday 10th April
Went to movies with George.Â Saw â€œMoon over Miamiâ€.Â He came home with me.Â Tried to teach me the Conga, taught me new step.Â Heâ€™s not bad.Â Kissed me!Â Supposed to see him at dance.Â He is 20 years old.Â Very good singer.Â Wants to be my regular boy friend.Â But of course itâ€™s out of the question.
Saturday 11th April
Danced a lot with Charles!Â Went to dance with John.Â Talked in afternoon to John and Bill in High Street.Â They came to tea!!Â About 1:30 Bob came in car.Â Stayed couple of hours, heâ€™s getting leave soon.Â Fred(Bill) got jealous, also George did.Â Had talk.Â Told him I liked Bob.Â Kissed me.Â Tony kept fooling kissing.Â Also Nic.Â Supposed to see Nic Thursday.Â Tony and Bill came home.Â Had wonderful time at dance.Â John rather annoyed.

Wednesday 8th April
Supposed to go to Guildford with Charles.Â He did not come.Â Met Bill and John.Â Saw Johnny Ford, Norm.Â Went had drinks in Cranley Hotel.Â Saw George.Â He gave me RCAMC badge.Â Saw Robbie.Â John gave me photo of him and Bill.Â Dot and Billie came.Â Bill came had supper.Â Did not go until late.Â Heâ€™s staying at Troop Inn with Bill on leave.Â Rather boring.Â Keeps talking.
Thursday 9th April
Boys came round.Â Went to Cranleigh Hotel.Â Had rather good time.Â They all like to come round.
